About Us
Deepdale Gardens is a self-managed cooperative community located in the Northeast section of Queens. Incorporated in the early 1950s, it was the largest Federally sponsored housing cooperative built in the United States, designed as affordable housing for World War II veterans. Deepdale Gardens is situated on sixty (60) acres of land and is comprised of sixty-nine buildings containing 1396 garden style apartments.
Deepdale Gardens offers apartments ranging in size from 3.5 to 5.5 rooms. There are four on-site laundry rooms situated throughout the community and 512 rentable garages. Outdoor parking is available at no charge in the lots scattered throughout the property. A parking sticker must appear on the car and can be obtained in the management office. Parking is available only to shareholders. Play areas for children can be found throughout the development as well.
Deepdale Gardens consists of four (4) corporations with each apartment in Deepdale represented by one share of stock in one of the designated corporations. The corporation is managed by a thirteen member volunteer Board of Directors. All shareholders are welcome to attend monthly open meetings, and are encouraged to run for Board of Director positions.
Deepdale Gardens maintains a Management Office to facilitate the day-to-day business of the corporation. The cooperative retains an Operations Manager, Administrative Manager and an office staff who act under the direction of the Board of Directors to carry out the corporations’ daily business. A separate Maintenance Service Office is manned with service providers and porters who maintain the environment and infrastructure of the buildings. There is emergency service available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
Deepdale Gardens was featured in a recent edition of US News and World Report as an exemplar of cooperative living and offers many recreational, educational and social opportunities to its shareholders. Located in School District 26, children are within walking distance of both an elementary school and a Junior High School. During the summer season, shareholders may opt to join the Deepdale Pool Club, join the adult activities at the Samuel Field YM-YWHA or enroll young children in its nursery school. Our senior shareholders have an opportunity for socialization at Deepdale Cares, located in a building within our development. Deepdale employs a private security company to patrol the property.
Deepdale Gardens strives to foster the cooperative spirit and provide its shareholders and their families with a peaceful and comfortable living experience.
